Traditionally, a metal amalgam material was used to repair minor tooth decay or damage. Today, we use a natural-looking composite resin material instead. In addition to looking just like your natural smile, this tooth-colored filling material also allows us to provide a more conservative treatment. Amalgams are held in place by wedges carved into healthy tooth structure. The resin can be applied directly to the damaged area where it seeps into small crevices in the tooth creating a stronger, more natural bond.
