Dental Crowns & Bridges

Two of the restorative dentistry solutions we use most often are dental crowns and bridges. Dental crowns are advanced restorations placed over the top of damaged teeth to restore lost tooth structure and renew oral health. Fixed bridges are used to replace one or more consecutive missing teeth. If we determine you’re in need of either dental crowns or a fixed bridge, you’ll need to plan to visit our Gainesville dentist and team two times. Contact D Smiles Family Dentistry to find out more about crowns and bridges or schedule a treatment consultation in our office.

WHAT ARE DENTAL CROWNS?

Dental crowns, sometimes called caps, are restorations that fit over an entire tooth. In addition to replacing lost tooth structure, dental crowns also protect teeth preventing future damage. Dental crowns require two appointments to place. During your initial visit to our office, we’ll prepare the tooth and capture bite impressions. Before you leave the office, a temporary crown is placed. This temporary protects teeth from damage until your custom restoration is completed. Once we receive the custom crown from our lab, you’ll return to exchange your temporary for the final, flawless restoration.

WHAT ARE FIXED BRIDGES?

Fixed bridges combine dental crowns with prosthetic teeth to create a natural looking, feeling, and functioning tooth replacement prosthetic. One or more replacement teeth, called pontics, are connected to dental crowns on both sides. These crowns are then attached to surrounding healthy teeth or dental implant posts to provide support for the prosthetic. Like dental crown placement, fixed bridges are typically created and placed over the course of two appointments in our office.
