FAQs

Our knowledgeable dentist and team members are always happy to answer questions for our patients. For your convenience, we’ve compiled answers to some of the questions we hear most often on this page. If you don’t see the answer to your question or want to find out more, we’d be happy to help. Call D Smiles Family Dentistry, and one of our team members will answer your questions to the best of their ability.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD I VISIT THE DENTIST?

We recommend patients visit us every six months as is the recommendation by the American Dental Association. These six-month dental checkups give our team the opportunity to diagnose and treat oral health issues in the earliest stages.

WHAT IS PERIODONTAL DISEASE?

Periodontal disease is more commonly referred to as gum disease. It occurs when plaque and tartar buildup at the gum line irritates soft tissue leading to inflammation and destruction of gum and bone tissue, and other oral health issues. We offer periodontal therapy to keep your smile whole and healthy.

DOES TEETH WHITENING WORK?

Our professional teeth whitening solutions provide effective, predictable results up to ten shades brighter for most patients. If we determine that the shade of your smile will not be improved with teeth whitening, we can provide other cosmetic dentistry options.

WHAT IF I HAVE A DENTAL EMERGENCY?

Call us right away! The D Smiles Family Dentistry team is here whenever our patients need us - dental emergencies included. We’ll talk you through at-home care over the phone and schedule an appointment in our office as soon as possible.

SHOULD I CONSIDER DENTAL IMPLANTS?

If you’re missing any number of teeth, we recommend a dental implant consultation. We’ll evaluate your smile and help you find the best tooth replacement options, but we frequently recommend dental implants because they offer a natural looking and feeling restoration.

DO YOU TAKE MY INSURANCE?

We will be happy to process and file forms for most dental insurance providers, and we offer in-network care for many of the major PPO insurance plans.
