Dental Hygiene

Toothpaste on toothbrushWhen it comes to maintaining a healthy smile for life, dental hygiene is key. Our team works hard to keep your smile healthy, but we typically only get to see you twice a year. The other 363 days of the year, your oral health and hygiene are up to you. By combining effective in-office and at-home oral hygiene routines, we can help you keep your smile healthy and beautiful. Call our office to find out more or schedule an appointment with the caring D Smiles Family Dentistry team. We welcome patients from Haymarket and surrounding communities to visit our Gainesville dental office.

In-Office Care

During six month dental checkups, our skilled hygienist and dentist will provide complete professional teeth cleanings. If tartar has hardened onto the surfaces of teeth, these professional cleanings are the only way to remove this solidified plaque sometimes called calculus. When you’re in our office, we can also offer tips for at-home care techniques and products to ensure your optimal oral health.

At-Home Hygiene

Perhaps an essential part of your oral hygiene routine, at-home dental care should include brushing two minutes at a time twice a day and flossing daily. We recommend patients use products that have the American Dental Association seal, and we’ll be happy to make specific recommendations during your preventive dentistry appointments.

Periodontal Maintenance

If you suffer from gum disease, you’ll need to schedule regular periodontal maintenance appointments. During these visits, we’ll complete thorough teeth cleanings. Additionally, we’ll carefully chart the depth of the pockets between teeth and gums.
